Having graduated from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada with a BASc(hons) in Mechanical Engineering, Mark is currently working on a Masters degree here at Monash under the supervision of Dr. Soria. His area of research is an investigation of Zero-Net-Mass Flux jets in a crossflow.

The Zero-Net-Mass Flux jet is created using a pair of electromagnetic actuators (sub-bass woofer speakers), which oscillate a diaphragm sinusoidally by means of a piston arrangement.

The oscillation of the diaphragm forces water through an orifice, which is mounted flush on the wall of a vertical water tunnel. Thus a jet is created, as fluid is forced into the passing crossflow during each cycle.
